Winstanley Neighbourhood Makeover Approved

Wandsworth Council has approved a major regeneration plan for the Winstanley and York Road estate, pledging around 2,500 new homes (half council‑rent), a leisure centre, library, green spaces, cafés and health facilities to uplift the area over the next decade. Source

Windrush Exhibition Vandalised Again

A Brixton Windrush Untold Stories display was defaced again on 16 July, with police releasing CCTV of a suspect carrying a crutch. Despite distress, officers say this latest incident isn’t linked to the July 3 event and isn’t seen as racially motivated. Source

Clapham Screw Scourge

Bedfordshire Police have boosted patrols after reports of hundreds of screws deliberately scattered across Clapham roads since 28 June, causing dozens of tyre punctures. Councillors and locals are worried about potential harm to pedestrians, cyclists and pets. Cleanups and enquiries are underway. Source

Forget‑Me‑Not Café Anniversary

Balham Library’s dementia‑friendly Forget‑Me‑Not café celebrated its second anniversary this week. It meets weekly for cake, crafts, conversation and interactive games, offering a warm, supportive space for people with memory issues, carers and families. Source

Oyster Fee Hike Hits Londoners

From Tuesday 22 July, TfL is raising fees: the 60+ Oyster card jumps from £20 to £35, annual checks from £10 to £18, and Zip/student cards up by £1. Visitor cards will cost £10 from September. Fee increases help cover rising costs. Source

Beware the £80 Wheelie Ban

Under Section 46A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, leaving your wheelie bin out too long, blocking pavements or attracting pests could land you with an £80 fine. Councils typically warn first- just ensure timely bin etiquette to avoid penalties. Source
